In a significant update for households across the country, Amul has once again increased the prices of its milk variants by ₹2 per litre, effective from May 1, 2025. This revision affects all categories of Amul’s pouch milk, including Amul Gold, Amul Taaza, Amul Shakti, Amul Slim & Trim, Amul Cow Milk, and Amul Buffalo Milk.
Why the Price Hike?
The price hike comes in the wake of rising input and procurement costs. According to the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the apex body marketing Amul milk and dairy products, this price revision is necessary to ensure fair compensation to over 36 lakh dairy farmers associated with the cooperative.

GCMMF stated that the cost of cattle feed, transportation, packaging, and electricity has gone up significantly over the last few months. Additionally, the cooperative has decided to increase the purchase price it pays to farmers, so that they continue to receive a fair share of the consumer price. Around 80% of the price consumers pay goes directly to the farmers.
New Amul Milk Rates (Example – Gujarat Region)
Milk Type | Old Price (1 Litre) | New Price (1 Litre) |
---|---|---|
Amul Gold | ₹65 | ₹67 |
Amul Taaza | ₹53 | ₹55 |
Amul Shakti | ₹60 | ₹62 |
Amul Buffalo | ₹71 | ₹73 |
Amul Cow Milk | ₹56 | ₹58 |
Amul Slim & Trim | ₹48 | ₹50 |
Amul T-Special | ₹61 | ₹63 |
Note: Prices may vary slightly depending on your state or city.
In the 500ml pouches, consumers will see a ₹1 increase. For example, Amul Taaza 500ml, which was earlier ₹27, will now cost ₹28.
Nationwide Impact
This hike will affect millions of households that depend on Amul for daily milk consumption. It also comes shortly after Mother Dairy, another major milk supplier, announced a similar ₹2/litre increase in its prices across major cities including Delhi-NCR.
According to dairy industry experts, this could trigger a domino effect, leading to price hikes by other milk brands as well.
Farmer-Centric Move
Amul has emphasized that the decision is not just about covering costs but also about supporting the rural economy. Along with the price hike, Amul has also announced a reduction in the prices of cattle feed by ₹50 per bag to help farmers maintain profitability amidst inflation.
This balanced approach aims to ensure the sustainability of milk production while keeping consumer pricing under control.
Consumer Reaction
While many consumers have expressed concern over the rising cost of essential commodities, others have shown support, acknowledging the importance of fair farmer compensation. However, the repeated price hikes in the dairy segment are likely to put pressure on monthly household budgets, especially for large families.
Final Words
The latest Amul milk price hike is a reflection of ongoing economic pressures in the agricultural and dairy sector. While the increase may seem small at ₹2 per litre, its cumulative impact on monthly expenses is notable. Consumers are advised to check with local vendors or nearby Amul parlours for the exact updated rates applicable in their area.
